This was a real interesting location and not what you might think. This “window” is not really a window at all. While walking down the hallway in this ryokan (traditional Japanese hotel) there was this little space…I don’t know what it was for but the model is kneeling down in this little tiny space. I lit the scene with 1 Icelight on the left and cropped out the hand of the assistant holding the light. The inspiration or the thought behind this piece is that she is a Geisha in old Japan being sold off and displayed in a window. That’s why she’s not really smiling as per a traditional portrait but her expression and body language showing her not too ideal situation…
